Also has anyone ever had a prednisone withdrawl? I've been taking pred for about
11 months now and tapering it down I was taking 40 mg now down to 10 every other day. Body aches...severe fatique... And terrible head muscle cramps.... I have had these symptoms for about
3 months now. Will it ever get better? How can I cope with all of this

lalala, I don't have any advice to offer. I wish I did, and that I could tell you something that would help you, but I can't. I read your post and wanted to respond because I wondered why you put that this would be your last post?
I'd guess you've brought up these problems with your doctors. What are they telling you? Are they helping at all?
(((((hugs))))) your way (gentle ones as giant hugs would hurt) and I hope things get more manageable soon.

talk to doctor....The first time I was on Prednisone and tried to ween off of it I thought I was going crazy. Horidous mood swings. Its been awhile but I think she had be breaking pills in half trying to ween me of slower. My withdraws were so bad I refused to go on it again until this year. This year I didn't have too many symptoms on it and hardly any withdraw issuses.

I hated Prednisone, with a passion! This medicine was evil for me. I went crazy, literally, emotional train wreck. That's when my severe leg pain started. Acne and fat face. UGGHH! Hot sweats, insomnia, etc. I had to slowly decrease the dosage over time. looking back at it, probably should have just quit one week in when it started. It will get better though. When you get off of it and it gets completely out of your system.

I posted this as well... I am really struggling.. I got down to 12.5 and crashed, severe fatigue, muscle pain, joint pain, dizziness, mood swings, severe weight gain, hair loss, moonface.. I have been in agony. I was taking vicodin for the pain because I was in tears. My GI refuses to believe it is the pred but the Mayo said definitely and thinks my doctor pulled me off to fast. Mayo also thinks that I am suffering with an adrenal problem thanks to the pred. I have been on it for eleven months as well.. They bumped me back up to 15 and I will do one mg taper at a time every week.. I am still in so much pain. I have been doing espom salt baths which help a little, sleeping all day.. and just drinking a ton of water. It sucks so bad. Prednisone is evil. I keep wondering how long it will take to feel better....
hugs to all who are suffering with this withdrawal....

I'm tapering as well...just dropped down from 25mg to 20. I'm really beginning to feel it in my intestines and getting a bit of an achy head. I'm going to stay on 20mg for the whole week now. The pred free days seem so far away... :-(

One thing I found that helped was taking vitamins that help support adrenal function. There are a lot of weird supplements listed when you research adrenal support, I didn't take anything weird, wasn't up for it. From my research at the time I decided to take B complex vitamins, Vitamin C, and magnesium, all important for adrenal function. I had a hard time once I got under 20 mg. I think the vitamins helped me, I went from being weak and fatigued and achy most of the time to just the first few days I dropped. So if I dropped to 10 mg on Monday, I usually felt bad until Wednesday but then felt pretty good the rest of the week until I dropped again.
It stinks until you have been off a little while. I have been off for almost 3 weeks and finally am feeling normal. Hang in there, prednisone is the worst!

The mayo had recommended 1 mg at a time each week if you are struggling.. my gi dr was too fast..he was cutting me down 5 mg a week... every person is different so definitely check with your dr and make sure you speak to them about
any effects you are feeling. hugs to you. You said it... this is a very nasty drug.
