For those of you who have had c diff...  was your output different than when you had a flare?  I have been on 3 rounds of antibiotics in the last month and I am trying to figure out if my constant output is from the antibiotics or if I have c diff. Was your output different?   My stomach gurgles almost constantly and my output is very loose and watery. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, I did feel different than when I was flaring. I was much more nauseous when I had c. diff, and the abdominal pain was different in a way...I'm surprised your doctor didn't tell you to go on a probiotic while taking all of those antibiotics. If you want to know if it's still c. diff or just the antibiotics, either have your doctor order another test (best choice), or go on probiotcs (which you should still do). Take the probiotic a couple of hours after each dose of antibiotic, it will help to keep your intestinal flora balanced, and will actually help your body to eliminate the c. diff if you still have it.

c. diff usually produces a distinct smell - sometimes described as sulpherous.

There's usually a lot of belly pain that's intense and more continuous than most people get with CD symptoms.

There is often a fever and general feeling of being unwell.

You may not yet have c. diff but you could easily have bacterial overgrowth of other kinds of bad bacteria.

As Immisicecream suggested, adding a probiotic right away may be very helpful.

If you can find one that includes the strain s. boulardii, this strain has been proven to fight c. diff recurrence.

My husband has had problems with recurrent c-diff infections. One of the hallmarks of crohn's disease is frequent watery smelly stool. With my husband, we could never figure out if it was crohn's or C-diff, because the symptoms for both are so similar. The stool test is the best way to be sure. If you think you may have c-diff, best thing to do is to get your stool tested.

Also, just taking antibiotics, can upset your bowel movements. My husband, when he takes flagyl or vancomycin for c-diff, he still has loose movements until a few days after he stops the antibiotics (even if he takes probiotics at the same time).

I'd suggest getting your stool tested; adding probiotics, and if the test results are positive, treating the c-diff and stopping the antibiotics that you are currently on. Don't wait to get yourself tested, because I believe leaving c-diff untreated can cause your crohn's to flare up, and that's absolutely no fun at all. My husband had a very severe flare up of crohn's while he was also fighting c-diff, and it was absolutely horrendous.

I hope you don't have c-diff, and things will get back to normal once you finish your antibiotic regimen.

Saccharomyces boulardii is a yeast - one of the products that contains this is called Florastor. My husband takes 4 capsules (250 mgs each) of florastor daily. This yeast is thought to be able to control c-diff in the gut a little. These days I think you might be able to find Florastor in the target pharmacy and at some CVS locations.

With C diff I had horrible mouth ulcers ... uncontrollable actually until I got the infection under control. Healing ahead for you is my prayer.

You really need to get a stool test to see if you have C. Diff. If you do and you don't get it properly treated, the C. diff can cause some bad outcomes. I ended up in the hospital with severe bleeding from my colon.

I would get tested to be sure. I went to my GI thinking I might have C-diff. We figured out it was actually the flagyl I had been on. I never had Diarrhea before then except on the rare occasion but since 2 rounds of flagyl I have it just about every day now. Luckily only 2 movements a day but i will never take flagyl again! shocked
