prednisone, as far as i know, should be taken 1mg/kg.
is your child 40kg? if yes, the attack dosage is right.
I wouldn't have tapered faster than advised as 5 mg more in a week are not so harm..
consider that there are people overthere who took prednisone for YEARS and are still alive. I know your son is growing but I think that a therapy which lasts a pair of months will not harm him. yes, it'd be better if he wouldn't have taken, but if they think he needs it, perhaps it could be useful.
for me prednisone is not so useful as when I taper it, the effects disappear. but many people obtain remission just using prednisone.
many doctors are preferring the anti-tnf for childs and young people, so remicade could be an option for your son, but it depends if they want to try imuran before. many doctors are preferring to use the anti-tnf before everything else to get fast remission. never took it so can't say if it's right from my point of view, but many people consider it a miracle infusion.
