I get the menstrual type cramping from time to time. It could be referred pain from elsewhere...you could have a stricture and active inflammation elsewhere. I always chalked mine up to inflammation in my colon because it gets worse if I eat a nonsafe food. But menstrual type cramping was my very first symptom way back before I was diagnosed with my first flare.
Are you due for your period? A lot of female Crohnies on here say that their symptoms get really, really bad right before they get their period. Usually happens with me. Though a while ago I was sick for almost 2 weeks and thought I had a few obstructions and SEVERE pain, ended up getting my period and it resolved to the status quo. Really weird and the male GIs I've talked to about it think I'm nuts...
I'd call your doctor though. A change in symptoms should be run by him.
