There. I've had enough of constant bloating, pain, gas, steroids and what-not. I spoke to my consultant earlier today and agreed to have an op to remove my strictures and she'll get back to me with a date within next couple of days. I never thought I'd be looking forward to it as much as I am now. They are going to do it in Harrow, London. I'd be interested if there's anyone out there who's had a surgery at St. Marks. Would love to hear your story...

Thanks Sniper. It feels like I've been putting it off for way too long and I can't wait for them to fix my plumbing...even if it's just for a few months.

It gets to be a quality of life issue and when you no longer have a quality of life, then its time for surgery. At least thats my opinion:)

Hoping this surgery leads to a long long remission. I am on the other side of the pond too, but I think it was Ivy who put up a post recently for Nice Cup of Tea and St Marks sounded wonderful. I think Vixen or Chocolic has used St Marks. Good luck!

I'm sure St. Marks will be absolutely fine for surgery and will do as good a job as anywhere else within the UK and probably better than most.

But their advertising blurb makes me snort so cynically, you wouldn't believe. I was with them for 5 years. Credit to them for a quick diagnosis, but other than that I wasted my time going there. All they did was prescribe me different versions of mesalazine, none of which I could tolerate.

I am so done with the NHS and IBD. I'll not go back except over my dead body.

Thanks guys. :-) I only hope they agree to do it laparoscopically. We'll see...
NCOT- I really don't know what to say as I'm not part of the NHS. We live in Jersey and have our own little system which is...well what it is. Everyone here has mastered passing the buck that's for sure...

So it's scar tissue, right? In that case, am hoping the surgery will dramatically improve your quality of life!

I completely understand your reasoning for looking forward to removing the strictures. Since last april I have been fighting a stricture too and it is not fun. The bloating, throwing up, weight loss, loss of appetite, and pain are very frustrating. Good luck to you and good luck with your recovery. What part of you intestine is being resected? Is this your first surgery? I am not British and part of your system but I bet they end up doing it laproscopic
Nicecupoftea, you are a smart person who has a lot to contribute here but you know that you can not deny the disease cause it will not deny you. I am not sure what to tell you but I am seeing your frustration and want you to know I have been there too. It is tough when your disease is symptomatic but not quite ready for surgery. A lot of us are there and a lot of us have wanted to pretend like the disease was not in our body. I stopped medication once but Crohn's never stopped me. I paid for it and am paying for it now with my stricture. Had I not stopped my meds and went through a period of denial, I would not have given the disease enough time to scar over and become inflammed enough to make me lose 40 lbs. Sure a lot of us have symptoms and flares under medication but it is 100 times worse when not being medicated. Hang in there and understand that people do see your hurt through your posts and we are here for you.

Ari, I had a 5 inch stricture removed a year ago Jan. 15 and it was the best thing I've ever done!!!! No more pain in my side, bloating or nausea. A little more D than usual but meds have helped that. They tried mine lapro but there was so much scar tissue in my gut the surgeon had to open up my old scar. Good luck, I hope all goes well for you.

Thanks guys. It's the usual for most of us TI stricture, but I'm sure there are some other little ones there as well. They want to do an overhaul of my plumbing and it's going to be a combo of resection and strictureplasty, so I think I can forget about laprascopy and be happy whatever I see after the surgery. Just like tsitodawg I've been fighting this since last april/may, I can't remember, and I think I feel better now than I did in June last year, but am so sick and tired of it that I pray to God for it to be over and done with. Honestly, I think I've tried everything short of ripping my stomach open to get it sorted and now it's time to leave it in the hands of the surgeons...
