Hi,
Just hoping if anyone can help with this.
My husband has been on 6MP for years now and has just started Humira two weeks ago after things have been getting bad for a while (partial obstruction and lots of pain). Our doctor intends to slowly stop the 6mp in the next three month and keep going with the humira for as long as it will work (and we pray it will work).

We are very much wanting to get pregnant soon but worry-
should we wait until the 6mp gets out of his system or until more Humira come in? which is worse for pregnancy?
I hear both affect the sperm count but not sure which one is worse for that or for the baby's health.
Does anyone have children after being on Humira or 6mp?
would be most thankful for any information.

wife to a 33 y/o sweet man with crohn's diagnosed 20 years ago. been on everything+several operations. currently on Humira and 6mp

My wife and I have been trying to have children for a couple years now and I really feel like 6 mp had a huge effect on that. We have not gone to fertility clinics yet because my wife is still in school and I am on disability but do hope to have children in the next couple years. I am about his same age(31) and found out that the disease does cause men to be deficient of testosterone. I now get monthly injections that do help. All of the medications, the steroids, the biologics, and immunosuppressants are going to have an effect on us at different degrees. Has he been tested yet? I would make an appointment with your primary care to test his testosterone and see how he is doing. I had no idea that I was even low but when tested found out the it was a real problem. The injections gave me a ton of energy and helped me start regrowing my hair that the 6-mp helped me lose.

We have had many mothers on this forum who have had successful pregancies and healthy babies after using meds such as Prednisone, Pentasa/Asacol, 6mp/Imuran, Remicade and Humira. The general thought is a healthy mom produces a healthy baby. Now on how these meds affect men with Crohns, I have no idea. Hugs!

I posted on your duplicate thread but I guess someone deleted it.  I don't want to retype everything but I'm a male who conceived a healthy daughter while on 75mg of 6MP.  There are studies going both ways on the effect of 6MP on the rate of birth defects.  Let me know what you decide!  Good luck!
