rem and entocort combo

has anybody done this combo? entocort by itself did nothing, so i'm skeptical on spending money on a drug that by itself did nothing, but the combo, would it be worth the try? with co-pay it still is around $100 per month. years time of that $$ would make 3 truck payments

I'm in the loading phase of Remicade right now (2nd dose next week!!) with Entocort and Imuran. Was on Entocort for 2 weeks and it didn't do anything with my current meds, so we added Remicade. The Remicade's been helping a lot with the Entocort...been pain free and relatively symptom free since the first infusion...I think I'm on Entocort until Remicade induces remission for me...then I should come off of it.

Are you flaring through the Remicade? Are they planning on having you stay on it forever? Could you try using Imuran and 6mp in addition to the Remicade to help with breakthrough flares??

I tried immuran, with no effect, only kidney pains, and gi stopped it. unless it works different with the rem. the thing is I have decent relief with my current regime, but you know gi's they would like all patients off pain meds, but I've had this for 40 years almsot 41 years, so I know my cd very well. we're on tight budget right now until our art business picks back up, then Idon't mind trying that combo. right now we need to keep our home, and medical ins. but yea Iam flareing, but not as bad. our business usually picks up in mid march, we make willow furniture and garden arbors, tables etc. if there is enough $ then Iwant to try the combo, thanks tooth

Did you talk it over with the doc and let him know staying on the Entocort would be $$ stressful? While I never like to suggest pred, it is a whole heck of a lot cheaper than Entocort.

If the Entocort isn't doing anything then I would also be wondering why I should stay on it.

I've usually started the anti-TNFs on the works (steroids, immunosuppressants, 5-asas, maybe antibiotics etc) and then gradually been weaned off the weaker meds as the anti-TNFs started to take effect. This is a long process, and done carefully.

Are you on something like methotrexate or imuran? Because maybe getting established on a med like that and then supplementing it with the Rem (or Humira) might help you.
