Abscess Surgery - Fever Afterwards

Can you call the hospital tonight and ask their advice?

maybe someone will come along who had abcesses drain, be careful it can turn into MRSA. someone will come along

Unfortunatly an abscess is an infection that does need some form of antibiotic, do not want to scare you but I dealt with MRSA for two yrs, although it took Doctors foreverr to discover it was MRSA because they would do exactly what they did to you, drain it,send me home. I went on every antibiotic, causing me to become resistant to each one... it affected my hearing, got one in eye, I have had one almost everywear. If it is bad they give you a pic line and give you Vancomyacin at home ,a broad-spectrum antibiotic, because the staph is resistant to all other antibiotics, any sort of boil is considered staph..Do not touch it, wash clothes with a little bleach, take baths with just a capful of bleach and use Hibacleanse,it is antimicrobial soap. You can get at CVS it kills staph. Trust me when I say once I started the bleach baths and Hibaclease it went away, with combo of antibiotic.I have not had anything in 1 yr..Not a doctor, but if you are running fevers I would go back to Dr and absolutely insist them test you for MRSA, it is not a standard test so you do you have to be demanding, it took a few tests before mine came back showing MRSA. So do not give up. You may want to have someone go with you, always helps to have another in your court demanding tests in my experience.

With the exception of "no antibiotics" I share your concerns and symptoms. My abscess, or cyst since the cultures grew nothing, was/is near my liver. It was drained for the second time approximately two weeks ago. Although I was on an IV antibiotic for five days, and have since been on two oral antibiotics, I began having fevers (the highest was 101.9) three days ago. I spoke with two different doctors. One said that if the fever is over 101 it indicates infection. The other said 102. Either way, I AM concerned, and I suggest that if you continue to run fevers you should visit your doctor about it without delay.

Thanks for all the concern. I had my follow up today with the surgeon and asked him about the antibiotics. He said it was a relatively small abscess, and since it was draining there was no need for them. I haven't had any fevers since...though he thinks I now have a fistula from it. I have two fistulas now. Hoping Cimzia kicks in and heals them up because it's getting pretty annoying having to wipe down there every hour to two.
