I've been scanned and was told I had osteopenia also. I'm lactose intolerant, and used to throw kidney stones all the time. I've never had an issue with the calcium tablets. Could it be the type you are taking? I know there is Calcium Carbonate and Calcium Citrate. My Rheumatologist insisted I take the Calcium Citrate. Not sure if that would make a difference. He also put me on a mild diuretic to keep the kidney stones flushed out. Since I started the diuretic, I've not had one stone!
Might be worth checking with your Dr. and see what he thinks.
