6mp medicatin

I was wondering if any one can tell me if this medation is expensive.

We do have insurance but would like an idea what we might have to pay out of pocket. I know it might be different for everyone because of the insurance that we are on but will like some rough idea.

I don't know what the total cost is, but my insurance has me paying a $10 copay for a 90 day supply. I've never seen the actual total cost of it. Your pharmacy should be able to tell you what the price is. They should be able to look in their computer for 6mp and see what your copay is based on your insurance.

As medications for Crohn's disease go, it's pretty cheap, especially when compared to the new infusion drugs.

There are support groups, best place to look is at CCFA.org They had a list last time I checked. Not all support groups are right for everyone. Not sure how old your daughter is, but it is sometimes best to find one that has people in the same general age range. That can help a lot. I went to a support group for about a year. I got some good out of it.

The generic is called mercaptopurine. I just looked online and it seems like it's about $100 a month from a US pharmacy without insurance. You can get it for about $65 a month from a Canadian Pharmacy.

Is your Rx insurance copay or coinsurance? If it is copay, then you should be able to look up on your insurance website what copay tier it is in.

If it coinsurance, it would probably be best to call your local pharmacy - say your doctor is considering prescribing 6mp, and you were considering price. It would help to know dosage because that can vary be patient & weight. And obviously price will vary whether it is 50mg or 100mg, etc. I find price also varies by pharmacy.
