Called in sick... AGAIN

I know that feeling. For over 20 years I worked at a job that was really flexible except for Mondays. It was the only day we were "open", every other day I worked was a flexible day. Of course whenever I felt my worst or my kids were sick, it was a Monday. Somehow I managed not to have to call in too often. Now I babysit for a friend 2 days a week. She just got layed off in January but wants me to keep watching the kids so she has time to work on her resume and stuff. Unfortunately, I've been sick all of February. She knew she was going to the ax, but she thought it would be later this year, I wonder if the universe was just helping me out so I wouldn't feel so guilty about not being able to watch the kids. Since she is home, its no big deal that "daycare" is closed.

The way I look at it is, if you take the time to rest and get better, you are doing yourself and your co-workers a favor in the long run because you will be more productive when you get back. Take a nice rest and take care of yourself.

This is actually the first job I have had that has been understanding. I've been given the axe more times that I care to admit :(

I'm feeling a bit better now. Somewhat started my spring cleaning. I've been posting everything on Craigslist so I can make up for the money I've lost by calling in!!

I know this is probably everyone's dream.. but I wish I could find a job I could do from home. I tried my hand at selling homemade soaps.. but that was a wash ;)
I'm not very crafty and there's nothing that I'm exceptionally good at. Why can't I just win the lottery?!? LOL

I don't want to sound lazy, but sometimes I just wish I could stay home! I'm usually in a much better mood, and I get to relax and stay calm -usually.

Called in sick today too. I'm at a new job going through training, can't really afford to miss but what can you do? I was diagnosed with CD Sep. 2009 when I had an emergency colon reduction. Had symtoms for years before that. I have had numerous flare ups ans hospital stays since then. I go from job to job and I'm living with family at the moment. Do you ever feel like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde from all the ups and downs? Currently on prednizone, asacol, hydrocodone, waiting on pentasa in the mail, hope it makes a difference.

You did the right thing calling in sick. I should have done that yesterday myself. I was not feeling right but figured it would pass and went to work and almost passed out. Not a good thing since I am a Paramedic and had a patient at the time. Luckily, I was in the ER when this happened so I could immediatley hand over my patient to the nursing staff then sit down and wipe my face with a cold wet towel until the feeling passed!I eneded up leaving work in the middle of my shift.  I learned a good lesson yesterday!

thats what happened to me at the job I had at casino, they hated me for calling in sick, but I had fmla from HR. and letter from dr saying that I should take from 4-6 days a month plus no overtime, it wil exasperate his condition. they hated my guts. finally I made afew mental mistakes(pred) and they fired me. so my dr just applied me for sdi and told me to apply for long term. but I'm 60. But fortunaly we have home based art business. so the worse it gets for me is when I do art shows which I just started doing, and it is overnight type show twice a month, other than that I get to work at home, stop when I'm having rough morning, not fatigue has been bad, so I'm not able to produce like I want to, that's why ssdi approved me. But you're still young, and you want to be able to work at a decent career, sick or not, I was a horse jockey for 18 years all cd years.

if you have HR dept. you get what is called fmla, ongoing medical. protects your job, you cannot be fired, if you have fmla. you can sue if you get fireds for your illness.

mtgman, take your time, new job, I waited 1 1/2 years before I got fmla. just a reminder if you have HR dept. they say oh we work for you workers, BS they work for your CO. so they will do whats best for CO. they will help you legally they have to. But I would wait until things are good for you in that Co. then go to HR,not your boss. ask for fmla forms, don't evan tell HR, just ask for fmla forms, thats it don't give much info. wait until you have your dr fill out form. You have to tell him that you would like to be able to not come in if it's bad. you're allowed 84 days a year for sick leave. the only trouble is you have to keep track of days you did call in so you know, use your calendar,mark days you called in, try not to do it to ex tend your weekend, that is the first thing they will do is watch what days you call in, they look for patterns. I had no pattern, I would call in when I was at work, if I had cramps and I knew there was going to be br issue, i called in, hard to deal blackjack when you have cramping pain

Thanks for the feedback, I was forced to resign at my job because I ended up missing to much training.  On my way to Austin, TX now with a buddy of mine, hope I can maintain enough to hold a job.  You just have to keep your head up and keep moving on.
