Does anyone else see a pattern with their Diarrhea and Joint Pain?

I keep a diary for the dr and noticed that when my diarrhea is above ten times a day, my joint pain is manageable, I hurt but I can deal with it. But when I only going about 4 times a day, I am in so much pain that I can barely move. It has been doing this for a couple of months now. Then there are some days where there is no pattern, I hurt because I hurt and still go all day. I have decided I would rather spend all day in the bathroom than not be able to move.

Crazy...I did talk to the dr who looked at me like I was crazy.... rolleyes maybe I am .

You know I am finding that when my bowels slow down, I will get some wierd pains too. Today I have a post about back spasms, and I think that may be the culprit (slow bowels). Maybe we are on to something here:) Hugs!

Wouldn't that be wonderful? Hubby looked at me yesterday and said if they solve my mystery, maybe they would understand my situation better. Sorry you are having back spasms.. hugs back to you.

Since I'm lucky to go twice a week, maybe that's why my joints are so bad!

Yes, it really does.  I'm going to start taking dulcolax and see what happens with my joints.  I see the rheumy tomorrow and am expecting her to refer me to the Cleveland Clinic, but maybe I'll have enough time before the appointment gets arranged, etc. to see if the dulcolax helps.  Thanks, junerainbow!

I've had RA since childhood, dx'd with Crohn's at 16 - I find that they definitely take turns. When one is quiet, the other is flaring and vice versa. I count it as a blessing since I have NO idea what I would do if I was crippled AND pooping my brains out!!! :)

Oh yeah, I always alternate between bowel stuff and joint/muscle stuff. When one isn't being fussy, the other is. Every once in a great while I will feel just plain fine. Then I worry what's wrong with me when that happens.

I find my joints are a precursor to my flares. When I 1st got sick I had joint issues around the begining of november then that year (pre Dx I went into the hospital on Dec 23...I was in the hospital for 6 weeks when I got my Dx placed on TPN, pred etc back when I was 8.

How about tracking your menstrual cycle too? Progesterone and estrogen kind of mirror each other during a monthly cycle. When progesterone is high (starts rising with ovulation, peaks the day before you start your period), bowels are typically slow because progesterone is a long muscle relaxer. When estrogen is high, progesterone is very low. Estrogen peaks on ovulation day.

There are a lot of other hormones involved in the menstrual cycle. There are also prostaglandins released in the pelvis during ovulation and probably when menses begins, and that is irritating to the bowel.

I can tell you when I ovulate because that day my joints will be on fire. Same with the day or two before my period starts. Once I tried an estrogen patch to see if I could smooth things over, but it didn't help. I'm looking forward to no more cycles!

Great idea.. but I had a hysterectomy in 2007 , haven't had a period since 2005. It was complete so I have nothing left... I do wear an estrogen patch though. hmmmm.
