Hello all. New guy here. Diagnosed with UC a little over a year ago and now I have been diagnosed with Crohn's. Currently taking Asacol, Prednisone, Cipro, and Flagyl. Right before Christmas 2010 Dr. prescribed me with 6mp and a week and a half later it put me in the hospital with pacreatitis which possibly caused me to develop diabetes. The prednisone is not helping my sugars any. Taking Metformin for the diabetes. Overall mess and might be causing me to be medically retired from the military.

What branch of the military?  And where are you stationed?  All of that might play a factor in whether you can stay in or not.  I thought (would like to stress that THOUGHT point there) I heard it was pretty much an automatic out.  But at least they are providing that treatment for you with the meds.  I am curious to know how this plays out for you.

Hi Bart, I know your pain! I'm afraid 6mp damaged my pancreas too. I now have chronic pancreatitis.
Luckily, I haven' developed diabetes yet!

Bart, welcome to the forum. There are actually a lot of members here who were originally diagnosed with U.C. and later rediagnosed with Crohn's disease. There are also quite a few of us that have both diabetes and Crohn's disease. My diabetes is type 2 and only steroid induced. The metformin was terrible on my disease and I was able to get off of it once we figured out that my high A1C was linked to the prednisone. Good luck and thank you for serving our country. Welcome Bart! I too have Crohn's and Diabetes. I was first diagnosed with crohn's and a few years later diabetes. Sometimes I find it difficult to balance both illnesses. It is a lot of trial and error. My GI doctor told me to follow the diabetic diet, just watch your fiber intake. Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. Give it time and hopefully all will work out for you. Good Luck.
