For the women out there. Has anyone had a hysterectomy, and has seen improvements with their crohns?

I was so miserable for about
3 weeks out of every month that I had a complete hysterectomy at the age of 36 (now 53). For me personally, it was the best decision I ever made. At the time, I didn't know that my Crohns was the cause of such miserable periods. But after the hysterectomy I personally felt so much better and wasn't so miserable so much out of every month.
Roni, one of our members, just had one a few weeks ago. Hopefully she will let you know how she is doing. Hugs!

I just had a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. Kept my ovaries. It's too early to tell how things will be because I also had a resection and my bowels still spasm a lot. Periods have been a huge problem for me over the last few years and CD symptoms were so exasperated because of them. My gyn told me that my hormones might still affect the CD, but hey, it can't be as bad as when I was bleeding so heavily. Thank God that part's over.
Nanners, did they find anything wrong with your uterus? Mine was inflamed, but gyn couldn't say for sure why. I think it's crohn's related. Still waiting for pathology report.

That's how it's been for me. My periods feel heavier and the cramping that use to go away with 2 Tylenol, doesn't. How was the procedure in itself? Could I ask why you kept your ovaries?

My uterus and tubes were inflamed, but my ovaries were healthy. I'm so glad too because I didn't want to go through menopause in my thirties.
My understanding is that they don't take ovaries out unless there's a reason. If you get your ovaries out, then you'll have to go on HRT. I'm sure that affects every women different, though. I suggest you do lots of research and talk with your doctors.
Do you have a diagnosis as to your heavy painful periods? Have you thought of other options like BC, IUD, or uterine ablation?
Here are some old threads (most are mine cause I was so desperate for advice and got lots of good feedback):

Roni, I had large fibroids which they first tried to shrink with medications, but it didn't work. They were hoping I could have the type of surgery they do thru the vagina, but since the fibroids were so large they had to do the bikini cut.
Roni, I got my ovaries out too, as I heard that keeping them you will still have the pms symptoms and that was a big issue for me, so I told them to take it all out. Never have had one regret. Take my little Estrace pill every night and no problems:)

I had albation done for severe endometrosis. I did not have fibroids or cysts. I had severe bleeding and was fighting anemia. I do not heal well, and I was on a higher dose of predisone back then. I am still told though my uterus is the size of a coke can with no signs of cancer, though?
