about meds?

Hi, now that my son has been diagnosed ( last october) with crohns im beginning to feel a bit less uptight about it all and questions are coming to mind. ( we live 3 hour drive from our consultants and ibd nurses) and our next app is in june. although we do chat frequently on the phone. One of my questions is, my son is on 6mp and mesalazine, is it likely that he will be on 6mp or an immunosuppresant for most of his life( he is 8) or can sometimes the mesalazine to the trick?  My husband was diagnosed about 6 years ago and all he is on is pentasa too and calcium tablets and touch wood he is fine? it does concerm me SO much to think that mt son will be on such a powerful drug for a long time?

i just wonder why at the very beginning they had him on the mesalazine then the 6mp rather than see how he went first with just the mesalazine? i suppose its a question i should bring up at the next appointment. x

I have been on 6MP for over 12 years. I have been on other medications along with it, but that has been the one constant. I just had to have my 4th resection, BUT the pathology showed that the narrowing was only adhesions from my previous resections. I started the 6MP after my 3rd resection and I had a really good stretch of time with very minimal symptoms from my CD. Most of my trouble has been from the adhesions.

Everyone seems to respond to the medications in their own way. If this is working for your son then I would really need to have some serious discussions with his doctor before I would go messing with his medications. Whatever keeps the DD at bay is a good thing in my book.
