Seton Stitch

I am just needing to ask a quick question.  I had a seton stitch put in about 15 months ago.  When I saw my doctor in follow up, he said it could just stay in if it wasn't bothering me.  It wasn't.  Just kind of wierd to have the thing hanging back there. 

I then moved to NYC and my new doctor had me go for a follow up about it.  Again, the doctor said if it wasn't bothering me just to leave it.  All has been good.

Then last night, when I was wiping, it came out. 

Has anyone had this happen?  It feels a little wierd, but no pain. 

 

Yes, I have had one fall out.

I'd recommend calling your doctor and reporting what has happened. They may want to watch you a little more closely for a while, just to make sure you don't develop an abscess again (remember, the seton was there to keep things clean and draining), or they may decide to insert another one. That's what they did for me.

All the best, and sorry this has happened - it's not a huge drama or anything (at least, it wasn't for me), but it *was* annoying as it meant a lot of extra running around, plus another trip to hospital for the reinsertion.

I never really noticed mine all that much except when I was doing my thang in the morning so to speak. I never really noticed any drainage. It never really felt like a tube -- kind of like a twisty tie attached to my bum. I think I am just going to sit tight/or loose and see if I notice anything wierd going on. I have had a lot of gastro problems and surgeries and to be honest, if I don't have to go bottom up again in a surgical suite, I would be beyond thrilled.
