Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Tetracycline.  I "think" I have a possible bacterial overgrowth again and doc prescribed this for me to try since the Cipro, Flagyl, & Xifaxin upset my gut too much.

Just wondering your experiences with it.  How did you tolerate it?  Did it cause the diarrhea and nausea like the other anti b's do?  Thanks for your thoughts.

PS:  I say "think" because I am feeling kinda off the past few days, but not really gassy like the other times I have had BO.  Actually had a spot on my right side near the rib cage that felt like I had a knot there that hurt a bit yesterday.  I don't feel like I have an upset stomach or anything, just uncomfortable type of pain.  Hugs!

Tetracycline is a very old antibiotic, tried and tested over the years. The only thing I know about it years
ago it used to rot baby teeth. But since you're past that stage, hopefully you'll have no problems. Best of

I was put on very high doses of tetracycline when I first got crohns as I was living in asia and misdiagnosed with tropical sprue. I can honestly say it did not help me at all in fact after six months I was so sick my hubbys company repatriated us to New Zealand. Eventually I was correctly diagnosed but tetracycline alone was obviously not something that worked for me.

I am on the good old cipro/flagyll/entocort combo at the moment myself so would be very interested myself in something else that doesn't make you feel like c*&! :)

I can trace my first ever crohns symptom to a high dose of Tetracycline. I was prescribed it for a spider bite and it made my stomach contract in a wave-like manner. I will never take it again.

I haven't even started the med yet. Just don't want to feel like *&^# that antibiotics always make me feel. Plus I can't tell if this is bacterial overgrowth or just a bad few days. Just kinda waiting it out some. Thanks for your thoughts though. Hugs!

took it a lot as a kid, it also discolored my teeth as they were growing. so whitener does not work its on the inside.. oh and it is a 'sun' multiplier, so ive gotten some good burns while taking it as an adult too, stupid me..

I took it for years as a kid for acne. I am convinced it is why I have crohn's. I would never take it.
If I did take any antibiotic I would be very very careful to take lots of SCD yogurt or lots and lots of probiotics to offset the antibiotic

Yeah I agree with you Dave. I still have not started it, as I don't think it is bacterial overgrowth. So far so good, just some cramping still, but nothing too great. I am hoping and thinking that its just a few bad days. I will continue to watch things, if it continues longer I will call the doc. Thanks all!

gosh njmom that is very interesting. Maybe I just had Dehli Belly when I lived in Singapore and by them misdiagnosing it as spru and treating it with massive doses of tetracycline they actually caused my Crohns ........ was my original theory funnily enough as the diagnosis proper was made some three years later in New Zealand.

That is interesting. I actually listed Doxy as an allergy for many years because my belly reacted sooooo badly to it. But now I have some really severe allergies to a lot of antibiotics so I had to take it off and just really stress that I would rather not take it if at all possible.

I've always been aware that some antibiotics cause a flare, but had no idea that they might actually
develop it. Interesting!
