so we bought a boat 3 summers ago- one without a head.  stupid for someone suffering with Crohn's to buy a boat with no bathroom but hindsight...anyway- i've been lucky- no issues, scares, accidents etc. but every weekend i get so stressed out about taking the boat out- it sucks.  i want to go out with friends but i'm terrified.  if i know we're going i stop eating on friday and don't eat again until after we get off the water- lovely.  it's so much fun and i love it but the stress is awful.  i know there's a lot more worse things to be complaning about than having a boat but what's a normal day for others...anyway may i suggest that if anyone out there thinks about buying a boat- GET ONE WITH A HEAD!  HAHA.

I can relate to this as we have been boating for most of our lives and I have had CD for 22 years. We have a boat that does NOT have a head in it either. I worry endlessly too. BUT, I have only had a problem ONE day out of all the days we have been out. I keep a coffee can in the boat, and the one time I needed to use it, my husband got everyone out in the water and helped me make a barrier out of a beach towel so that I had some privacy. NOT one person really knew what was going on. I put the cover back on the coffee can, stashed it away and it was ready if I needed it again later that day, which I didn't, or to throw away when we got back to the dock.

Would something like this ease your mind a bit.

I have the same problem with our boat. I take 2 immodium the night before and 2 before we leave. It leaves me a little crampy, but better than the alternative. I found this little fold up toilet in the camping section that works awesome. You unfold it, go into a bag, then tie the bag up when your done. I always keep large trash bags on the boat for trash and baby wipes for quick clean up after baiting hooks or removing fish, so those come in handy also. The only problem is privacy, but we've rigged up a beach towel that blocks the bow from the rest of the boat so I will go up there. When the kids know mom has to go, they all scramble overboard anyway!

Stressing over it just makes it worse. Try to prepare as much as possible in advance, and improvise when you have too.

I always make sure I have plastic carrier bags with me (check for no holes). Makes you feel secure
in the knowledge that you have something to go in that's easy to store and trash. I've had a lot of
success this way, it has a larger opening for a better aim, TMI :)

thanks for all the suggestions! i bought a camping toilet i keep on the boat- I'm just afraid that we'll have guests on one day and i won't have time to dig out the toilet, set up the bag, throw everyone overboard (hehe) and do my thing...wish the economy had treated me a bit better so i could trade up- oh well...at least i know i'm not the only one out there feeling this way! have a great summer everyone!

Why not set up a porta potty and just have it ready to go in case you need it? Just a thought!

hi Nanners- i wish i had the room to do that but the storage area is not big enough- the camping potty solds flat so that helps...

How big's the lake? I'd have to apologize to my friends if they swam near me but as far as I'm concerned thats a better alternative than going in ones pants...
