NY Veggie
I am sorry you need to be on this board, but welcome you to our funhouse! It sounds like you have done a superb job of getting diagnosed and finding a surgeon who you feel listens to what you need.
I am going through something somewhat similar, although in my case a fistula is the start of my surgery saga. But the 2nd opinion that I got from a very respected lady doc at Johns Hopkins made me feel very comfortable that she understood my situation and was experienced enough to deal with all my complications. Unlike you, this will be my (hmmm let me count now) 8th surgery (altho one was a happy event - my C-section!). I have enough adhesions in there to float a boat (one of the surgeries was to clean out the adhesions so I am sure they are back).
I really admire your ability to stick to the diet. I have been low-residue (stricture) and no-alcohol (Flagyl) for a year and a half now. Every once in a while I just wanna whine about
it! But you are right, the pain is not worth it (not to mention the trip to the ER where they shake their heads and wonder why all of a sudden you are unblocked, and yell at you if you ate some roughage
. But I digress...
I agree with everyone who says to stay ahead of the pain, it will allow you to move around better and heal better. The more movement, the better your BMs, not to mention fewer adhesions forming. And along that line, be sure to wear stretch pants (sweats maybe), and your biggest stretchiest underwear - and don't forget my favorite - slip on shoes! Saves all that bending over. I just used that exact outfit to go thru the testing day from hell. But at least I was comfortable ! lol
Best of luck with everything...
