I'm very sorry to hear that. It must be a very difficult thing emotionally to cope with as I think we can all understand how something like this lowers our self-esteem.

Hopefully you will find someone who UNDERSTANDS what you are going through.

Tabicat - I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you. To echo everyone else, it's much, much better to have him leave now then when you guys are married or when you actually do get sick. Though it's a horrible, horrible reason to leave someone..he's a coward. You will find someone else who will be much, much better for you then him...

Tabicat, I cannot believe I am actually reading your post.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's in September, and in December my boyfriend that i have lived with for the last 4 years and had been dating for 5, broke up with me. I was literally in shock as our entire lives were together. We had a condo together, bought an SUV just last year, and all of that. We were obviously already common-law, and I just finished University in June 2010, so marriage was for sure the next step.

I have a great paying job, and I was also the homemaker- cooking ,cleaning and everything. I know I was not sick when we got together, but after 5 years together and having such a strong relationship, its unbelievable to have this happen.

I can tell you that I know exactly how you feel and I am so sorry for your pain. It is hard enough having Crohn's and now I feel like its something I should be embarrassed for, and that it makes me less worthy.

You say you understand somewhat though, because you know it is a lot to deal with and I understand what you are saying. At first I thought he just needed some time to let it all sink in, but when I realized he was serious I was so furious and I still am. It is a lot to deal with, but when you love someone, wouldn't you do anything for them?

My boyfriend's (ex, hard to say but 5 months after, he is my ex) reasons were similar but he had some added cruelty. He said that said that it hurt him to see me sick, which was ok, but then he started talking about how I was "damaged goods" and how I would ruin his life. He thought travelling with me would be too difficult, and also he would not be able to have children with me as this would be "wrong", and that he could no longer imagine marrying me. Ouch.

I couldn't imagine my life without him, and he couldn't imagine it with me and it is the worst feeling in the world. I have just gotten sicker and sicker since the break up and although I am trying, it is so hard to get past this.

Once again, I am so sorry for your loss, because mine is the same and I wouldn't wish this feeling on my worst enemy, honestly. I wish I could say something to make it better but I think time is the only thing that could help. Here's to hoping.
