Hi.

Can ulcers of the intestines Heal or are they permanent??

Do you have more pain with less Diarrhea. I have been increased on Salofalk to 8 pills a day and the diarrhea has finally stopped although I have some intense pain on my right lower quadrant on on the left side of my belly button, pain wasnt as bad when I was on less salofalk but had Diarrhea. Is there a conection??

Yes ulcers will heal, but over time they can lead to scarring, which is a major factor in obstructoins and resulting surgery.

The goal is healing the mucosa of the intestine is so that there is no inflammation or ulceration. If there are ulcers, GIs want them to heal. Then the goal is to keep more ulcers from forming. That way there will be less likelihood of there being so much scarring to cause narrowing like Mike wrote about.

I had ulcers in my terminal ileum. They were small. When they healed, they left small scars. These scars have not caused any narrowing because they were small. My last colonoscopy showed no signs of Crohn's. I am lucky because my initial medication put my guts into remission.
