Rash, joint issues, and Remicade

has anyone here ever had an eczema type rash while on Remicade? I have a rash on my back that looks like eczema, it burns and peels similar to a sunburn. Lotions (hydrocortisone, aloe vera, regular lotion) make it burn worse. It is usually worse after I shower (we have hard water) it will somewhat disappear the day after showering and is really itchy, benadryl helps but it knocks me out so I can't take it during the day. I've been getting some eczema on my upper arm the last few years, but all over my back is new, as well as the same sunburn feeling on my face but no rash. I have been really itchy since starting remicade, but until now haven't had any rash. I called my dr today and they want to see me in the morning so they squeezed me in.

Also, I've been having more knee issues and not sure if it's really related to remicade or not. I dislocated my knee 3 days before my daughter was born 19 months ago (made for an interesting delivery, lol) and I've been having several moments in the last couple weeks where it feels like my knee is dislocating again. I've had to start wearing my knee brace 24/7 again because the slightest movement can cause it to slip again. I know once you've dislocated you're more prone to have them again and again. I've had arthritis in my knees since I was 12 so I'm used to knee issues, but I was just wondering if the Remicade could be having an effect on the joints.

Anyways, sorry I rambled some. :)

there is a rash associated with crohns. I had it most of my life but it got better after I started Remicade. Its not gone but better . As for joints I find any injury from birth on comes back to haunt us .

I never had a rash while on Remicade, but I did have to stop due to joint issues. Basically, I had debilitating joint issues all over my body buy mostly my knees. A rhuemy confirmed it wasn't arthritis but more likely antibodies to the Remi. I never had the blood test for antibodies but as soon as I stopped the infusions my joints got better.

I never got a rash from Remicade...but oh my did I get joint pains..especially in the knees.  It would get so that it was hard to walk and even lieing down would hurt.  Because the pain would start right after the infusions and not before them led my doc and I to believe that it was the Remi causing it and not the Crohns.  Needless to say, I went off Remicade and the pain has yet to return.

omg yes!!!!! I have it on my forhead (right between my eyes) lower lip, and my boobs...ARGGGG!!!! Went to the dr yesterday and told them if they didnt' give me something for it, i was going to scratch myself raw right there in the office. I have to take benadryl so i don't scratch.I makes me loopy but i don't have a choice, 1 for day time, 2 at night. I am hoping this cream works.Let me know what your dr has to say!!I have some finger joint pain, but that's about it for that.

Glad I'm not alone! haha... Well since they wanted to see me early to look at the rash, I figured it must be urgent. Turns out it wasn't and felt more like a waste of a copay really... He said it looks like eczema and wants me to use creams with oatmeal in them just after showering (I think Eucerine was one of the ones he mentioned) and that should help with it. He didn't seemed concerned at all about it, and was happy to hear that my trips to the bathrooms have decreased since 3 weeks ago.

As for my knee, he said it's possible it's related since Remicade has been known to cause joint pain. However he thought it was more CD causing the joint problems, and since I've dislocated it once before and already have arthritis in it, thought I was more prone to having issues in them.

I'll let you know how the oatmeal cream works. :)

Out of curiosity, do your knees hurt all the time? Mine hurt worse after an infusion, like clockwork every time. That's how we knew it was the Remi.

I got joint pain from Remicade. I developed antibodies to Remicade and ended up with debilitating joint pain. It started in my shoulder, then switched to the other shoulder. It built slowly over time, increasing with each injection. I would just keep an eye on the joint pain, if I were you. If it spreads or changes, definitely make sure your doctor knows. The joint pain the Remicade caused me, when at it's worst, was maybe the worst thing that happened to me in my life. I couldn't move any part of my body without extreme pain. I felt as if I were made of stone. I would hate to see anyone else go through that, especially since it could have been prevented if it had been caught earlier. I had eczema on my skin but I think it might itch more since I had my Remicade on Saturday.

Thank you all for your replies. I've noticed the eczema has now creeped onto my hands/ and thighs, just a couple spots so it's not bad.

Lamb- they don't hurt all the time, they do when weather is changing. they will ache like growing pains, but they've been doing that since I was 12. I was more concerned with my knee joint 'slipping' out of place. I'd step the wrong way and then all the sudden I feel my knee slip and as a reflex I quickly stop putting weight on it and then it hurts for about an hour or two (sometimes longer, depends on how long the weight was on and how far it slipped) It's also only in my right knee, the one I dislocated, it could be acting up again so I may need to get some xrays done. I'll have to talk to my ortho dr about it. I may just need physical therapy again.
