I've heard of tenderness and numbness around incision site for up to a year, but I'm still feeling muscle or nerve pain 4 months later. It is still getting slightly better every week. It isn't severe or anything, just annoying and requires tylenol sometimes.

Anyone else have this months after resection/ab. surgery?

My surgery was 2 years ago next month and I still have tenderness & numbness around the larger incision. At 1 yr, the numbness was about the size of a credit card, now it's about the size of a quarter. I rarely get nerve pain anymore.

Im 4 an a half months post resection.  I get the odd twinge (nerve endings I think).  And my scar is tender if my clothes rub too much.  But otherwise Im ok

Have you spoken to your surgeon or GI about it? Since the doctors are a bit confused about what is going on with me, one of the things they are treating "just in case" is nerve pain. I am on neurontin and I have a TENS unit. Neither of these have helped me, but I don't think my issue is nerve pain. Something like this might help you. Of course each time the nerves get cut it can cause more damage. I don't remember, but this wasn't your first resection right?

I am still having what I think is muscle pain sometimes too. Some days worse than others. Mine is mostly down near the bottom of the incision. It is a deep pain. I have tenderness on the upper part of the incision (particularly around the belly button) depending on the pants I am wearing. My boyfriend just keeps telling me I am doing too much, but to me I am not even up to what I would normally be doing. Can you maybe get it checked out with atleast your family doc if it is more than what you think you should be having?
I hope you can get back to your normal self real soon....whatever normal is with us..

Hey my last resection was about 6 yrs ago and I still have numb areas and tender areas. Might just be scar tissue???

Zanne, this was resection #2 for me. I had one in '03 too. I don't remember this kind of nerve pain with that one, although my cd came back right away then.

Yesterday, I lifted my 28 lb two year old upstairs (I'm about 100 lbs), and the day before that, I pushed the stroller up a few hills, so maybe all that pushed me over the edge, tummy-wise.

I can tell this pain is muscular and nerve, but I'll be seeing my GI this month anyway for another follow up.

Nanners, it could be partly scar tissue too. I know with a double surgery, recovery is probably a little harder, but I was hoping to be able to do some sit ups by now.

Roni this is taxing my memory since my resection was in 1990, but I recall a very long time before I stopped having tingling or some pain. I definitely could not do situps for over a year. I actually still have odd sensation at my scar and it feels odd to the touch, but not pain.

I think you might be right in that the lfiting the last two days pushed it over the edge. I couldn't handle heavy lifting for at least a year (I was out of shape before surgery so that definitely did not help!)

My numbness, tingling, soreness and pain, to some degree, lasted quite awhile, at least a year. But it
does sound as though you may have over done it. I truly believe in baby steps especially after
the second surgery!!
