So after being in the hospital for 4 days I was released only because i was going to follow up with my GI in LA..

 

I went in to ER because i had severe diarreah and dehydrated....well yesterday during my followup visit dr had me do a stool sample, and it came back positive for clotridium...I was so upset that during my 4 day stay dr's their never even bothered to do a stool sample!!! when i first went into ER the nurse had me give them a stool sample,BUT apperently HE NEVER sent it to the LAB!!! i was so upset...a nurse called me today asking about my hospital stay..and i gave her a piece of my mind...i did tell her in advance that it was not her fault BUT i had to express my true feelings about my experience!!!

 

 

anyways..have any of you ever had this?

I am currently in a Crohns flare, and they thought I had that too. I knew I didn't because while I did have diarrhea, it wasn't super excessive like someone with CDiff has, and my stools did not have the foul odor or lots of mucous.

One of our other mods, IDES, had it awhile back, but she is on vacation right now. She should be back soon, so hopefully she will see this.

Are you on antibiotics for it now? Hope they help to get you feeling better. Hugs!

doctor just called antibiotics, i dont recall the name of it, but he said they might make me a bit drowzzy...i'm glad they found something...

im still waiting for insurance to approve remicade...i have had a flare since early march...so i know how you feel...im so glad i found this forum because im able to talk about whats going on without getting the crazy eye....

oh and to add the smell of the stool is TERRIBLE!!! not within normal....

I have had it a couple of times. I was put on Vancomycin (?) both times, but Flagyl works too (I'm allergic to that one). It can be tricky to get rid of, so make sure that they test you after the antibiotic course and if you have any signs of a recurrence get tested again. Some people here have had very resistant strains. I was able to just do one course of antibiotics both times and be done.

Now that you have had it, you will always remember the smell and if you have that smell again, get tested right away. It can save you a lot of misery!

You should be feeling a bit better, from this anyway, in a couple of days.

My son got C Diff after having surgery while he was in the hospital. I think he got it from the NG tube they had to use after his surgery. He had 4/12 feet of colon removed from his crohns. When he started to finally move his little bit of bowel left, it was C Diff! HORRIBLE smell and horrible site. Green! Anyway...they sent him home with it and gave him flagly. It didn't work so they put him on Vancomycin. It took two months to get rid of. Then, his Crohns returned after 11 months of remission. SIGH....we were hoping it was the C-Diff back. Pretty sad that you would rather have C-Diff instead of crohns back!

I had CDiff a couple weeks after my resection. I was feeling fine, and then it was almost like i was in the middle of a flare. I lost more weight, which i barely had any to lose. I was hospitalized for the CDiff and for being underweight, more of the weight though. And i agree, the stool does get a weird, nasty smell. I apologized to the nurses every time they had to check my stool, it smelled so bad!

Good luck though! Crohn's is one crappy disease!
