Starting methotrexate. What to expect?

Hi,

After failing to tolerate Imuran and the ineffectiveness of Azathioprine, my doc decided today to put me on Methotrexate (10 mg every week).

I browsed the net and found that of the side effects that should be reported to the doc are mouth ulcers and hair loss (I have already got them but have never told my doc about them).

According to my doc, my case is "perplexing" and he still doesn't know whether I'm suffering from Crohn's or not? All the symptoms go for Crohn's with no colonscopic picture.

I really suffered a lot from Imuran. Is Methotrexate the same? Thanx

Did you doc mention taking folic acid while on the mtx? I was on 25 mg sub-q each week for about 6 months. I quit because it didn't seem to help. But, while I was on it, I didn't have any notable side effects. Some people find that doing the shots at night helps, but I never noticed anything on it. May as well have been a vitamin shot! ;-)
