I'm currently living in NYC and have some horrendous doctors. I was wondering if anyone here knew of a wonderful GI doctor who actually listens to you and doesn't leave you to suffer in pain? Anywhere within an hour I'm willing to go, it feels impossible to find anyone good.

My docs are in Great Neck Drs. Katz, Tepper, Fung Liu and Ginzberg. I love them and the office staff. I never have a problem getting in to them if I'm not feeling well or getting a call back. I know some people here are very happy with the docs at Mt. Sinai.

The doctors in Great neck/Manhasset are awesome in general. They are usually affiliated with North Shore University Hospital, which I was hospitalized in and love it out of all the NY hospitals that I've been to.

I recommend Dr. Mordecai Dicker or any of his gastro groups. I was suggested of the possibility of getting a surgery but after meeting Dr. Dicker and following his treatment, I'm in remission.

He is also very open minded and prescribed me LDN and very mild anabolic steroids(oxandrolone, very safe drug used for Crohn's or AIDS/HIV patients or people who went through surgery) to put on muscle mass and lose fat.

I live in Queens, Little Neck and it's about 5-8 minutes to his office by car.

... and this leads me to ask "What makes a horrendous doctor?"

I only ask because some people are offended by some doctors' bedside manner.
In NYC they tend to be more succinct and also want you to get to the point quickly. My GI is great but I can see why some would find his manner a bit intimidating. I appreciate his honesty and he is always available for a quick consult on the phone or in emails if I have a problem.
I have had really lousy doctors who have misdiagnosed me or prescribed medicine that didn't help me.

As far as pain, I don't know even one that will write a script for painkillers. Most of the doctors here are under a great deal of scrutiny for controlled substances and are reviewed all the time by the FDA and others. Almost all will send you to a pain management doctor if you insist. They don't want to have anything to do with it.
