Is it possible that I have C.Diff

Hello, I'm Serenitee, it is nice to meet you. I was wondering if you have ever suffered from C-Diff before since you seemed familiar with the name. I have had C-Diff too many times to count...I can just look at antibiotics & get C-Diff now.

With the diarrhea how many times a day are you going? When your on the toilet how long are you there for (each individual time)? This may sound strange, but you know how stool or diarrhea can smell...C-Diff has a very distinct foul odor. If you think you might be positive for it, then you don't want to put off getting a diagnosis quickly. C-Diff, DOES-NOT get better on its own (as far as I know). There is pretty much not a variety of medications for C-Diff. The main medication is in a pill form called Flagyl (affordable & easy to take). But C-Diff, as I said before is something that you don't want to put off finding out. Just ask your Doctor Monday that you would like a Culture Kit to bring a sample of your stool in. You must take it in within an hour of going, and be careful to not contaminate it. Also, C-Diff can be contagious & passed to others, so be careful for no one to come in contact with your stool.

I hope this is of some help to you. You will be in my prayers & thoughts. I truly hope you do not have it. I was wondering what kind of surgery you had, & how long ago was your surgery? C-Diff is something that needs time to grow the bad bacteria. If you have it, make sure you take your medication as directed & don't stop taking it early. If you have it real bad then sometimes the meds appear to be helping, then after stopped you can be kind of in like remission & the bad bacteria can take back over...Thats why you should make sure you take it completely as directed.

I'm so sorry I rambled on so much...This is just one specific area that I know all to well. I first got it when I was 20-yrs old...I had my firstborn (i have 7-kidz total now) by means of a C-Section, then the following week my appendix ruptured & I almost didn't make it. My Doctor pumped me full of an Extremely Large Quantities of quite a few different antibiotics at the same time I.V. form. I was in the hospital that time for 2-weeks, then I got home and within just a few days I began to get horribly sick & unbearable pain. Within a month I was back in the Hospital with a serious pseudomembraneous colitis from the C-Diff. Now, 26-yrs later I am allergic to ANY Antibiotics, but recently had to have an ileostomy & they tried sulfa antibiotics instead to try and keep me from getting C-Diff & it worked...Yippee! I can't even take antibiotics for Strep-throat & I will get C-Diff.

Pleez make sure you just insist to your Doctors Office that you want that Culture so as to at least ease your mind & remove some of the stress from worrying.

ileostomy 3-mths ago (intestines shut down & quit functioning), Pelvic/Bladder Trauma & Dysfunction, 2x Bladder Lifts w/mesh, 2x Rectoceles w/mesh, Colon tore thru vaginal wall & Colon & Bladder fell out of my body causing a lot of damage to Pelvic organs, Abdominal Hysterectomy, Tumor removed on head, C-section, Ruptured Appendix, 8-pregnancies-but 7-births, and several more diffferent surgeries.

If I were you, I would ask to be tested for C-DIFF and any possible parasites. You never know what you could have picked up while in the hospital. We always have to be our own advocate!

Hugs Vicky!! I was wondering does your stool have a foul odor? Thats what people have told me the most of what the experienced with CDiff. They thought I had it, but I have tested negative twice. Plus my stool DID NOT have the foul odor, I knew I didnt have it then. Hugs!

I have heard it is really a foul odor. Maybe it is time to get to get tested. I can't hurt. Hugs!

As for the odor, think of the worst odor you have ever had, then make it about 20 times worse! I was in the ER about 4 years ago with a really bad GI bug, but the smell was so bad they thought I had C-Diff. It got me a private room for my 5 day stay. The smell, plus the fact that I couldn't make it down the hall to the bathroom, I had to have a commode brought in. In all my years with CD, that was the only ER trip I needed a commode and I didn't even have C-Diff. But when I did have C-Diff before that the smell and urgency was really close.

Dunny.....hope things are improving.  Like t'dawg....I had CDiff without the "extra" odor.  Who could tell really?  I never noticed a different smell.  Mine showed up in a skin reaction (everything does for me).  I hope you are planning on getting tested because it is something they should look into for you.

Yes, you will take a long time to get the up and at 'em feeling, but better to ease your mind and keep healing.

I hope you feel better soon and if you are getting worse, see if your GI will push up your appointment date.

As for the foul smell for C-Diff....although it may cause a very noxious oder, it is not the only reason that there might be an oder.  I have been sick for almost 2 months now with bad D and yes, it smells really really bad.  I had a C-Diff test and it can back negative.  My dr believes it is a bad flare due to inflammation on my left side which was confirmmed by 2 different test. 

Hang in there.  All will be well soon.  I know it sucks to be sick, especially after surgery.  Just take it easy and let your body heal itself.
