Hello everyone!

I was wondering is anyone on a low fibre diet? I have been on it since i had my opper...12th apr 2011 and i am still on a low fibre diet.  Dietician has said i can start introducing high fibre foods one at a time but i feel so bloated, and have dioreahea.

Has any off you been through this problem? does it ever go away?

I have been on azathioprine for 3 months now and i have just noticed my hair falling out rappidly it has made me so upset. I have also noticed small spots appaering on my face and head. did this happen to anyone.

I follow a low residue diet. Since my surgeries this diet works best for me. I still have issues with more fibrous stuff, so tend to avoid it. As for the hair loss from the AZA, get 800 mcg of folic acid. That will help to slow it WAY down. Good luck!

Thank you ever so much for advice on taking folic acid.

I went to my GI Dr at St Marks Hospital, told the dr about my hair loss, he suggested ferrous fumate,he says the  cause is  i'm anaemic, said i can stop omeprazole, but start the 100mg AZATH...

I would usually fast in the month of ramadan but sad i cant.

 I have had baked beans today lets see what happens.  nono

My GI told me to take fibre supplements daily and indefinitely (while I was in a severe flare) and it was the best advice I've gotten from any of the 4 GI's I've had in my 20 yr experiance with my crohn's....my CD happens to affect my colon (where UC typically hangs out) and I've never to date had issues with my crohn's stricturing (knocking on wood I never do) so that may also be why fibre is my friend compared to CDers that do mainly have small bowel involvement and/or stricturing CD.

There is a huge difference between soluble and insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber such as wheat bran can sometimes irritate the digestive system. But many with gastro problems find soluble fiber such as pectin, psyllium (Metamucil), or Citrucel to be very helpful. If you have diarrhea then it should help to solidify your BMs.
