I don't personally "believe" that Crohn's has a dietary link. However, I do believe that many people have difficulty digesting certain kinds of foods. I know I became lactose intolerant, probably because the areas of my small bowel responsible for producing lactase were inflamed due to Crohn's, and probably also because like most other adults, I produce less lactase now than I did when I was younger. It's pretty easy to manage this with either using lactose-free milk or taking lactase tablets when I eat a dairy meal.
I recently adopted a gluten free diet to see if that would help with bowel problems I was having despite taking a boat load of meds for my Crohn's. It did! But I still need my meds, because I still have an inflammatory disease. I just don't have the diarrhea and gas due to sensitivity to gluten. My joints still hurt, and my motility problems still exist. I'm hoping that the motility issues will go away the longer I avoid gluten.
It isn't hard to do a gluten free trial. See if you can do it for about 3 weeks to get a good idea of the value for you.
