I've been exercising regularly for years and have nothing but benefits from it...regular exercise helps maintain healthy bowel function (good for D or C issues) it's also very beneficial for the emotional/mental roller-coaster that comes with having crohn's, aids with depression/anxiety, increases energy, helps with sleep issues and general overall health.
Any kind of regular daily exercise is better than none at all, regardless of how severe your flare is... for severe flares general stretching/pilates type exercising is great, moderate to mild flares pretty much anything you think you can handle and increase to whatever your body can handle at the present time. There are so many types of exercise that you can fit into your particular life-style whether you have bone/joint type issues (yoga and pilates are great as well as aquasizing) to different levels of cardio and weight lifting workouts.
You can monitor yourself based on how you feel day to day, that's the great thing (one of many) about exercising and you can make it as fun as you want...even just doing dance-type exercising, any kind of movement is better than none at all....drink lots of water and eat as healthy as possible and you'll notice more positive results quicker.
Good luck and have fun! I honestly don't think I'd be here today if it wasn't for exercising...it literally saved my life since the depression and severe anxiety I was going trhough just before I started exercising was making me feel like I just didn't want to be here anymore.
