Medication to treat rectal stricture?

My GI doctor called me tonight to discuss a problem I'm having with a rectal stricture.  He said he thinks I need stronger medicine.  I'm presently taking Lialda.  I don't understand how medicine can have any effect on healing a stricture.  He wants to do a colonoscopy to biopsy it again, seeing it's been a year, and the stricture was dilated in June by a surgeon.  There wasn't much improvement and I need another dilation.  I'm just really confused about why he would want me to take stronger medications to treat it.  Anybody?

If it is stricture from inflammation then meds will work, if its comprised of pure scar tissue, then no meds are going to work. You already had it dilated, so I don't get either why your doc would try another med. Hugs!

Thanks for your answers. And yes, I do believe it is scar tissue but it probably also gets inflamed in the area from straining to get stools to pass. I never have D and am always having to take laxatives to prevent a blockage. I guess I'll just let him go in again, biopsy it and then discuss the situation with him. I am really afraid to take some of the more potent drugs, especially if they really aren't necessary. I would appreciate any information on some of these, if any of you have tried them.
