Up till yesterday I have never written in, just read. Now I can't seem to stop writing. For the past 4 years, I have bled everyday and until the rectal surgery I had a month ago, it has always been alot of blood. I have been severely anemic for most of those years and have required a blood transfusion once and iron transfussions twice. I take iron pills daily and my PCP says, maybe the iron pills will help with the D since most people get constipated on iron. No such luck for me. Before the rectal surgery, I had D at every bm at least 10+ x's a day and usually in the morning and then by the afternoon I seemed to be ok. My GI diagnosed me with UC but the surgeon believes it's Crohn's and after having read the blogs I believe him.
I have multiple health issues and am on numerous drugs. I know how you feel about, I don't look sick so she can't possibly be that sick. It wasn't till I had the pulmonary embolisms and infarction earlier this year that my husband truly realized just how bad of shape I was in. He has been great but it wasn't always that way.
Since '08, I have made numerous ER visits and have been hospitalized in Sept 'o9 for uncontrollable blood pressure that caused blinding headaches. I had a DVT in my calf in July '10 and was in the hospital for a week. Double PE's and infarction in Feb '11 which led to another week in the hospital and on coumadin for life now. Was diagnosed with Lupus Anticoagulant Disorder after the blood clots.
I can take one bite of food and go running for the bathroom. Since the surgery, I am experiencing incontinence to the point that I won't leave the house without wearing Depends. I hate every minute of this.
I have gas, bloating, my right side will become swollen and rigid after eating. Not all the time and it doesn't matter the food.
I have PCOS, Mytral Valve Prolapse, diagnosed left-sided UC (but I really believe Crohn's), and Lupus Anticoagulant Disorder.
Since diagnosed with UC in '08, I have had phlebitis, kidney stones, gastritis, gastric ulcer, pancreatitis, torn anal tissues, anal abcess, double pe's and infarction.
My medicine cabinet looks like a pharmacy - coumadin, zocor, niaspan, iron, nadodol, wellbutrin, actos, tricor, lisinopril, prilosec, metformin, colazal, lovaza, lomotil and loratab and vitamin d.
I work full time and have a 10 yr old daughter who is active in school activities. I hate being sick. My aunt moved back from FL so she could help out here. It should be the other way around. My job has been awesome but one day they will get tired of my being in and out.
I am a very private person and as I said, this is the first time, I've spoken about this outside family and a very few friends. On the upside, I have discovered that I have friends that I didn't know I had. Ones that were acquaintances because they were the parents of my daughter's friends. A few know what is going on because my daughter told their daughter and they have really come forward with their support. It has truly been eye opening and heartwarming. However, I would trade every bit of it to be back to where I could get up and not worry about finding a bathroom in time.
