I had the beginnings of a perianus abscess one month ago, but after three days, it went away on its own... Six days ago, it returned, but four days into it, it escalated out of control. I thought it was a hemorrhoid, but none of the creams or pads provided relief. It got to the point where I could not walk without pain, and later that night, the pain escalated to the point that I had to go to the emergency room. All I wanted the ER Dr. to do was prick it so that it would drain, but he said I needed to see a surgeon the next morning, so he put me on augmentin 875 and a pain killer to get me through the night. The next day, when i went to sit down in the waiting room at the surgeon's office, the abscess broke and left a surprisingly large amount of material in my underpants when I dashed off to the bathroom to see what happened. It was a mix of blood, a clear-reddish fluid (lots of this) and pus... The surgeon decided to cut me
open anyway to make sure there weren't any hidden pockets of infection, and to be able to take a swab culture... It's been about
24 hours since the surgery, but my abscess keeps filling up with this clear-reddish fluid along with traces of pus. Does anyone know how long this is going to last? Should I be worried? My surgeon had inserted a strip of sterile gauze into the hole, but it came out after my first sitz bath following the surgery, which she said would most likely happen...
