Hi all! I have UC but thought I may get more responses here. Does it matter when i get a flu shot? I know it has to not be a live vaccine but didn't know if I needed to wait a certain # of days after my humira shot. I called the hotline and she said they didn't make a recommendation as to timing.

I had to put my flu shot on too for Humira. I don't think it matters how many days after you take your Humira shot.

few days later when I went to the pharmacy my pharmacist did my flu shot for me and sent the record to both my GP and GI. i have never had to do it a set time from an injection

Not sure about Humira but that's a good question. I do recall, however, that when I was onv Remicade the treating nurse indicated that I had to wait about a week to get my flu shot and to obviously make sure it wasn't the live version.

Just got my flu shot on Wednesday!! Its not a live virus, so I do not think you have to wait. Good luck!

Hi everyone.

I´ve been taking the fluevaccine the years before but there is something i´ve been thinking about: When tested I haven´t been producing any antibodies for the earlier vaccinations I´ve been taking. Not for Tuberculosis not for Hepatit A and B not sience I´ve got my diseases. Just wondered if there is anyone else having this experience? Has it got something to do with the meds or perhaps the autoimmune diseases? And of course if it is any meaning to take the vaccine at all? rolleyes

I was supposed to go to Africa next summer, but I can't go. Why? Because I'm on 6MP, which is an immunosuppressant.

At first I thought that the only problem is that I can't take the required live virus vaccines. But it turns out to be even more basic than that.

As you pointed out above, if I'm on an immunosuppressant (like 6MP, Remicade, or Humira), my immune system may be suppressed enough to NOT REACT to ANY vaccine that I get (whether it's live or not).

Which means there isn't much point to getting immunized, since it's very possible that my body isn't making the antibodies that I need to be immunized.

So I definitely can't go to Africa--or to any country that requires any current vaccines. And the tetanus, hepatitis, and other shots I got before returning to Toxicmoldville after Hurricane Katrina probably didn't do anything for me at all. Which is something that all of us on immune system suppressing meds should be aware of.
