iv Penicillin w/ Picc line

hello again. well my son is continuing his decline. we had the gi consult today to discuss the mri results done Tuesday. (2 ct scans on 8/29 while in er) he was on cipro and flagyl as well as 6mp and pentasa and cimzia (but at 22 he wasn't doing so well with taking them all the time, yes i think he has learned a valuable lesson) the gi said today that there isn't any decrease in the abscess he also has a phlegmon plus "possible fistula" terminal ileum. so we left today with an appt tomorrow with the infectious disease doc, gi wants his opinion on doing a picc line and doing Penicillin iv, i am not sure if it will be with a pump 24/7 or if they will do an iv of Penicillin daily. he also has requested a gi consult (second opinion) at the U of M (we live in florida) and next wednesday an appt has been made for the gi surgeon. so my question at this point; one step at a time; has any one done iv Penicillin over a period of time for abscess' or fistulas and did they have any success? this is actually the 1st time his gi has seemed to really put forth some effort in getting my kid better so my impression of him was slightly increased today with all the extra help he seems to be requesting. or is it so bad he just doesn't know what to do???? thanks to all of you who post to let the rest of us know we are not alone and to those of you that reply. i really does mean so much to have this forum.

Honestly I have had picc lines, at least in my opinion I always think they are a Godsend. No additional poking for blood tests, they use one port to take blood from, another to put meds, and another for other things.

As for the IV Penicillin, I have not heard of that being used in Crohns. But maybe it will work for your son. I hope it works to get him feeling better. Hugs!
