I just gave myself my bi-weekly B12 shot and I hit a vein. I forgot to draw back, and went ahead and pushed
the plunger, when I pulled the needle out the blood bubbled straight away. I now have a lump and some
bruising. Is it ok if it went in a vein?

I think it is. I've been doing B12 shots for years, and while I don't remember, I'm sure I've hit a vein before. The bruising would seem to suggest you've got blood pooled under there, but the lump suggests that either the B12, or blood and B12 got in there too.

I've heard that B12 is safe in all but really huge IV doses. If you were doing the normal dose that I do, you should be OK. B12 just gets flushed out of the system. If you have access to an advice nurse phone number, you could call and get a second opinion.

Last time I had my B12 levels checked, it was in the 1500% range. GI didn't have a problem with that.

Roni, I have to admit I often forget too. Anyway, I called my doc, and she said there isn't a problem,
just to put a cold compress on the lump & bruise. So you were right Matthew, thanks.

Dunny, I know your doc said to use a cold compress on that lump and bruise but when I had the superficial thrombophlebitis in the left arm veins I was told by ER and by my famly doctor to alternate hot and cole compresses. The cold to reduce pain and discomfort and inflammation but that also causes the blood to congeal so hot compresses to thin out the collection at the site.

Draw back? Where do you inject and how were you instructed to do it?

I inject in the top of the thigh, into the large muscle. After you put the needle in, you pull the plunger back
a tad, if you're in a vein blood will flow back into the syringe. If that happens, you should remove the needle,
change it and find another injection site to use. I will admit, there are occasions like today that I forget to
draw back... But it's something you should remember to do!!

Geeeeez Vicky . I did that one time and got a big bruise and when I looked in the mirror my hair was falling out and it was white and there were wrinkles and bags under my eyes . My eyes were bloodshot and may face was just down right horrid looking . Thank God my wife reminded me that I always look this way . I think you will be ok though . No chance you will have any of my symptoms .

there anything anyone can do!! I look 60 geez this is awful!!

Ah, I see. I was shown & prescribed my b12 as subcutaneous shots. So, I don't go into muscle.
