Imuran side effects question

Hello all,

I just have recently (yesterday) restarted on Imuran.  I started on it the 1st time b ack when I was 9 to get off pred back in 87.  I was on it for 12 years and ended up with severe low blood cell count once I was using it in conjunction with remicade.  I no longer am on remi but am on Humira weekly and breaking hrough it.

My questions are what side effects did you experience while getting use to the drug.  I t has been 23 years since my body had to ajust to it and I was quite young so I forget.  Just if I have weird side effects at least I will know it is possible from Imuran

Imuran is the one and only drug that I've taken that hasn't produced ANY side-effects for me, and with my history, that is saying a whole lot! If I'm not allergic to it, I'll have an adverse reaction, or it just doesn't work, but Imuran does work for me, and without any problems!

I am wishing you the best! Hopefully your body will tolerate it as well as mine does!

I hope so I recall having issues initially until my body adjusted to the meds, about 10 yrs after being on it I became hit with leukopenia (low wbc count) so I am so gun shy on it again. Atm I woke up with a pretty weird headache thinking it may be that triggering it not sure and I am totally exhausted and I did my b12 back on the 15th. Been so long since I had to get my body adjusted to it and I have been off it now at least since 04ish If I remember right may have even been before that

I have heard that initially there might be some nausea and hairshedding. For the hairshedding you can add in Folic Acid and it will slow that down for you. As for the nausea, I heard you should be sure to take it with food and maybe at bedtime to help avoid any side effects. Its a good med, and I hope it works well for you. I tried it and the nausea was too much for me, but switched to the sister med 6mp and took it at bedtime and had no problems at all.

Thank you all for the input. I have been having headaches every morning when I wake up since I have been on it (ones I usually get the week of my cycle but it isnt that time just after actually) So thought it might be that...I am trying to have an increased Vit C intake atm since I know it is another immunosuppresant and my step son has had a cold all week my husband gets it (he is diabetic so he gets ill easily as well) 1st then me so trying to stay clear of it.

It makes me soooooo tired. I felt like I had a cold for my first 2 weeks on it. My hair also falls out like crazy.

Nope, no side effects from imuran. I take 300 mg daily.

imuran, didn't do a thing for my gut part, but i have esophagal cd as well, it helped with that for sure, with help of 10mg pred, i'm afraid to lower pred doseage, my throat swells and food gets stuck in the top part of throat, then it's ER an they induce me to vomit, i can't vomit when it's stuck, nothing comes up, it's so stuck,but when they gave me drug to induce it, it makes my throat kinda moist andup she comes, but the headache that drug gives me is unreal, the whole vomit headache lasts about 10 min. then it was like nothing ever happened. asacol helps with gut part, just to an extent. i was in car accident back in may an that put me in real tailspin, so i'm just starting to recover from that. i have about 2 more months of PT and accupuncture treatments. i started having migrating arthritis, soon after accident, that went with flare, so weird because i was so proud, never had arthritis before, now its centralized in left shoulder and down my arm. i had just gone into remission for 10 days, then wham, accident, and with that major flare, part of lawsuit.
