Not sure how much this will interest everyone, but I remember how much worry Hurricane Irene caused, so with that in mind...
The Philippines is getting clobbered with its second deadly typhoon in a week. I'm in southern Taiwan, about
300 miles north of the Philippines, and we're getting it too but much milder. No one killed here in Taiwan, but in the Philippines dozens drowned, many more missing (meaning probably drowned but no body found), homes washed away. A real mess.
My understanding is that this last typhoon will hit Vietnam hard too in just a couple of days. There have been big floods in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam recently.
The Western news media is only giving it a little bit of attention, understandable I suppose since it's far away. From CNN:
http://edition.cnn.com/2011/10/01/world/asia/philippines-typhoon/index.html?hpt=ias_c1The best coverage I've seen is on Al Jazeera. Check out their two videos on this page:
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia/2011/10/201110141632985743.htmlI'm not sure if we have anyone on this board currently residing in the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand or Cambodia (and if so, they may not have electrical power right now, let alone Internet), but wishing you well.
