remicade and live virus vaccinations

I have not heard one way or another about that I know we are not to get live vaccines though sorry I couldnt be more helpful

Anyone taking Remicade or any of the other anti-YNF meds should not get any vaccination containing a live virus. Also, being on Remicade makes some more susceptible to getting viruses. Live virus vaccinations are just that, live and potentially can be transferred from the receipient to someone not protected against the disease that has a compromised immune system.

I have had many of the diseases that children receive vaccinations against. I was not concerned about being near my friend's young child after she had her MMR because I have had all three of them. I know I carry immunity against ruebella because in the old days they tested your rubella antibodies when you became pregnant.

The best advice would be that of your physician. No harm in calling and asking.

We just went through this.....I've been round and round with the Humira folks, the CDC, my GI and my daughter's pediatrician.....

So, from what I understand, the worry is from shedding. Basically, you want to avoid bodily fluids for a bit, glove up for diaper changes, etc. We did the MMR at 2 and 1/2 for my little girl (she just turned 3) with no problems whatsoever. The varicella is the one I worry about, but both docs I talked to said that if there are no lesions, there is nothing to worry about. Usually, the lesions in a shot reaction are near the reaction site, and the studies I found said that even with lesions present, it's pretty rare for it to pass on.

In my case, we did the MMR (our child was vaccinated with all her other stuff before I was on Humira), and we're still holding on the Varicella (I'm having surgeries coming up, and I'm prone to shingles), and during flu season, she gets the shot (killed virus) instead of the Mist. We plan to go on with the Varicella as soon as I'm reasonably sure I won't be having any surgeries for a bit.

Of course, you want to talk to your own docs, and make sure they are all ok with it too. You could also check your own medical records, or have blood work done to see if you have the titers (immunity) for MMR and chickenpox.
