My husband was diagnosed with crohns 30 years ago. Had major flare every 10 years but this time it won't end has been on remicade, cimzia, prednisone , imuran etc nothing working has lost 60lbs muscles hurt and this gross thing going on with his tongue..thinking of surgery but is afraid he won't be able to return to work . He works 45 hours a week for a tree company and also owns his own tree service.It is heavy physical work anyone in this occupation? Also on Humira now 8 weeks into it

Hi hooksettah and welcome to Healingwell. Sorry you hubby is having such a hard time right now. You know some folks keep fighting and fighting against surgery, but most of the time once they get those diseased areas out, they are so surprised how much better they feel.

Sometimes things get so messy in there that no meds work. That is the time that surgery is usually called for. When someones quality of life gets so bad like your hubby's is, then that is the perfect time to consider surgery. I have had the disease myself for almost 36 yrs and I made it 22 years before I had to have my first surgery. Mine was an emergency surgery becuz I let things go on too long. Its better to go in for a planned surgery than an emergency.

What are his docs saying about the surgical options? Hugs and I hope he feels better soon.

hi there. i'm in the same boat-- surgery looks like it's definitely on the horizon and its scaring the crap out of me. i have another appt with my gi tomorrow but like nanners said- its about quality of life right now...i need things to be better and if surgery might give me that opportunity i think im ready to consider it.
