my father is 67 years old, hes been living with crohn's for over 10 years now, hes had a permanent colonostomy for almost 6. When his doctor made it permanent his blockages and almost biweekly trips and stays in the emergency room stopped. Now his ostomy supplies have broken the bank account and he has asked his GI about a reversal, his colonoscopy came back clear and his surgery has been scheduled for next week. I'm terrified, i know that this is what he wants but i am afraid the trips to the ER and the blockages and all the pain and discomfort will return with it.  My dad is a fighter and i know he will try to live with it even if it makes him miserable in the long run. Is there ANYBODY out there that has had success with this procedure, if so, PLEASE GIVE ME SOME HOPE!!!!!

Unfortunately, my colon was so badly damaged that even though it was originally a loop ileostomy that was only to be for 6 months they couldn't have reconnected it even if I had wanted them to, which to be honest I didn't. I'm in UK so don't fully understand your medical insurance system so please excuse me if stupid question, if your father not able to get supplies under his medical plan or through some sort of support charity?

His medicare part D plan does not cover any of his supplies, he spends nearly $600 out of pocket every month. I am so sad to see how this disease has beaten him down over the years, as i've said before, my father is a fighter and i've never seen him give up but this disease seems to be gaining the upper hand.

Tiff we also have an ostomy forum. I was thinking maybe posing the question on how to save on the supplies on medicare part D. Maybe they will have some more resources for you that we may not have available on this forum. Hugs!

OK even with Medicare, you should get a reimbursement check for part of the amount. I did when I first had to get my supplies. You need to talk to his supplier and tell them to file it with Medicare. If that doesn't work, then call Medicare and ask them the name of a supplier that takes Medicare. That is how I got my help.
