Saw my doctor RE: antibiotics

Normally he's a great doctor, but he wasn't the best today. In fact he had a cold himself. Which is no excuse. He spent a few seconds with me, shoved a prescription in my hand and left. The antibiotic? Amoxicillin. How exactly is that an improvement over Augmentin? He said it shouldn't cause me diarrhea.

Well 2 hours after I took the first pill, I barely made it to the bathroom. Explosive D. :( I could just cry, but my throat still hurts to much to do so! I really need the antibiotics to get well, but I don't know how I'm going to do this for 10 days. Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. Well. I, myself, am in the middle of a proctitis flare up and have to take 2 antibiotics for the third time in a month and a half. I take Tavanic 500 and Orindazole 1500. Five days have already elapsed and still have 10 ahead. Correct me if I'm mistaken, in a previous posting, you mentioned that you suffer from D. I too do suffer from severe D but I decided to take Lomotil as usual. I can feel that these antibiotics do not make me any better but I'll continue the course in the hope that that darn proctitis inflammation becomes better.
My experience with Amoxicillin was to eradicate H.pylori and they were in the form of 4 daily i.m injections and it was not a nice experience. However, eventually, I got rid of this stubborn germ after failing 4 antibiotic courses. So, it's worth taking it.
As long as this D does not resemble that of C.difficile with severe bloody diarrhea, try to bear up with it. Sorry to tell you that but you said that your throat hurts. Drink a lot of hot drinks and take Strepsils.

I definitely agree with you that Jen77, should be aware of any persistent D and she should call her doc once she feels it has become annoying. Two years ago, I had what my doc called at that time C-diff but I had horrible severe abdominal pain, high fever, non-stop vomiting and weird diarrhea where I was passing out whitish membranes with blood clots inside. I don't know what that was and he never told me. I remember that I was pumped with a variety of injections: antibiotics, anti-vomiting and pred as I was very sick. After that, when I was tested for C-diff, it was negative.
I just wanted to clarify that I had this horrible thing for which the cause is still unknown.

Has no one suggested that you be taking an GOOD QUALITY mixed probiotic along w/these antibiotics? Timing is important and can be tricky - but it CAN be done. I've had to do it. The trouble is I've forgotten the timing sequence. Someone else here will have to advise you of that or post a new thread asking.

It is something like the probiotic 2 hours before or 4 hours after the antibiotic. That is the best that I can remember. It could even be the opposite: the probiotic 4 hours before or 2 hours after. It is difficult if you have a 4 x a day dosing regimen w/the antibiotic - but it can be done and it does help!

Thanks for all the advice. I know I need to take the antibiotics. I'm really feeling sick. Chills, sore throat, and body aches mainly. But now I've discovered these two painful lumps on my arm. about the size of a quarter. It's odd because they are on my forearm, no where near a lymph node. What in the world is going on with me?

Still having diarrhea today, but I'm hoping changing up my diet will also help. Kinda going on a bit of a BRAT diet. Staying away from anything that wouldn't agree with me.
