flue shot today, hope I don´t flare now..

Hi everyone

As I´ve written before I´ve had apheresis (not common in the states) and was controlled in october and found to be in remission. Am so glad about that it is truly incredible. But the last weeks there has been cases of the flue and I´ve been questioning if I should or not should take the vaccine for the risk of it starting a flare by activating my immunsystem rolleyes
Well I have finally decided that i should so today I got it.
So now I need you to keep your fingers crossed that this remission doesn´t go right down the drainer.

Little scared. But I figgered out that the risks if I get the flue is higher than the risk of flaring.

Has anyone any experience of the flueshot starting flares or not?

Flu shots are dead viruses so they will not make you sick. Better to get the flu shot than the flu, because we Crohnies tend to get even sicker than the average guy. Good luck!

Shoot, they gave me the flu shot while I was in the hospital with a flare! They never cause me problems, I figure it's better to get it because getting super sick with a cold or flu has been a problem with my Crohn's. It's how this last flare started up. Ended up needing antibiotics for a virus that turned bacterial. Antibiotics messed up my gut, and I flared. So anything to help me stay well is a good thing!

ditto nanners - I have been having them for 15 years with no side issues except and if I get the flu afterwards it is very mild - my GP insists I have the shot and I get if free because I am have a chronic illness (crohns apparently is in this category).

Which reminds me! I'm late getting one this year! Next week, I must go spend the 20 bucks for it.
Only problem I've had with them is I seem to find older strains of the Virus to get exposed to. Meaning the shot only moderates the crud, doesn't prevent it.
Hopefully, better luck this upcoming season.

And no, the shots have never effected my CD in ANY way Good or Bad.

I tend to get sick for about 24-48 hours every time. Last year was more severe..I was told many people reacted last year not just me! I was nervous because of predisone to take the shot, but my doctor does recommend all CD patients get a flu shot!

Glad you got it!
I tend to get the achy feeling for a day or two myself. It still is a heck of a lot better than fighting Bronchitis an ENTIRE winter. Something that has happened several times to me.
Of course, I can find other Viruses to get, to catch that. But Flu is the MAJOR offender. Always will be.
