I've been dealing with Crohn's since 1991. Had part of ileum removed at that time, done very well since. Relatively mild attacks - pain, all the icky stuff, but goes up and down for 2-4 weeks, then subsides. Have had no attack for 3-4 years now. Had big problems with energy level and being perceived as "lazy." I've found a pill regimen that really helps, and basic healthy diet and modest exercise make a BIG difference. Daily pills = 1000 mg Pentasa, 2000 mg omega 3, 500 mg bee propolis, 10 mg acidophilus. Also had Korean hand therapy, which seems to have made a big difference. Corn, corn meal, and corn flour react in me like food poisoning, and can trigger a longer attack. Other corn products, oil, syrup, etc., don't seem to bother. Last colonoscopy = complete remission.
My 10-yr-old son just went through horrifying UC, kept alive with blood transfusions and a pick line. Now he has a j-pouch and is doing great. Even tho it's not rational, I still feel guilty for "giving" IBS to him. We hope it really was UC and not Crohn's, so his terrible time is hopefully really past. All tests and symptoms = classic UC.
These forums really helped me with my relatively mild Crohn's struggles, and VERY much helped us through our decisions with our son. So I'm reading in to see if my experiences can help others at all.
