I've been on humira for 2 1/2 years. I used to wait till the alcohol dried completely, take it out of the refrig 15 minutes ahead of t ime, etc etc. One time I forgot I had taken it out and left it out for hours. Oh-oh. Now I take it out of the box, wipe with alcohol, wait about
30 seconds, then inject. Weird thing is that the burning is worse on one side than the other. I brace myself against the counter in the bathroom and count to ten or hear the "whoosh" and even then I wait a few seconds. That part is important. I find that bracing myself against the counter really does help. Sometimes there is a drop of medication on the skin afterward but most often not.
If diabetics can do this several times a day I can do i once every week or two. For me the biggest hassle is keeping it refrigerated while traveling. It does sting but as someone pointed out, there are worse pains. I will probably need to go on a diabetic med soon. Since my blood sugar problem is mainly one after meals I would actually rather inject short acting insulin when I need it rather than take an oral med every day. I know my pcp office thinks I'm nuts but its true.
I do like the pens. I don't think I would like drawing up either humira or insulin.
