I am on 0.4 cc's MTX injections once weekly. I have only done 2 injections and now my lymph node behind my left ear is swollen. I have pain in my ear canal as well. Anyone else have this experience with MTX? I am on such a low dose, with only 2 injections. I did not think it could lower my immune system so quickly. Going to have to call dr tomorrow to see if I should skip my dose. I doubt I will be able to get into see him, though. It takes weeks to get an appt.

I have been taking MTX 25 mg inj for 3 months now. At the beginning, I suffered from severe mouth ulcers to the extent that I could not eat. As you have said, swelling of the lymph nodes indicates that your immune system is severely affected by MTX. I think you should contact your doc immediately as the med might not working properly for you.

Thank you for your reply, Minnietoty. I sp w/ dr ofc today. Physician Assistant thinks I have an ear infection. Told me to skip MTX until this clears up. She could not get me into ofc today as she was the only one there. Told me to call and make appt on Monday if still having issues. I think I will just go to an urgent care center if it is not clearing up or getting better by tomorrow. I don't want antibiotics, but if it is not clearing up on it's own I will have to go that route.

Firecracker, I also have cd with fistulas... How do u manage your fistulas on a hygiene basis???

Fistula hygiene is a challenge. I use saline water in a can to gently wash the area when at home. Away from home I carry anti bacterial wipes to wipe the area clean. I do not have a ton of drainage, but at times I use sterile gauze pads to catch extra drainage. My seton drains were removed as they caused me a lot of pain. I had the colo-rectal surgeon do a procedure to marcupelize (keep the fistula hole open with stitches) and that has been helpful. The seton drains caused me to get muscle spasms in that area that were unbearable. I also kept getting UTI infections because the seton drains were so close to that area. I do a lot of sitz baths in epsom salts to sooth the area. I still discomfort in that area, but it is bearable. I hope this helps.
