Skin problems with Humira

Has anyone had skin problems while taking Humira?  I know this is used as a treatment for psirisis so it does sound weird.

Recently I have been getting what I would call sores all over my legs and hands.  I have had dry skin for a number of years but this is going beyond that.  The sores are not healing and some are *****.  I have used Neosporin on the worse ones and that doesn't help.

I am going to see a dermatologist and I think my GI is thinking Nodosum...but I am curious if maybe it is the Humira.

Only skin issues I've hard people having with Humira is a rash at the injection site, however I could be off on that info...but like your GI said, it very well could the nodosum skin issue since we IBDers are prone to extraintestinal manifestations.

Hope the dermy can help you with what ever it si!

I don't have any experience with Humira. Hopefully someone will be along to share their experiences. Let us know what you find out at the derm appt.

I have been having a lot of problems with my skin sinch being on Humira.  Last year at about this time I developed a weird rash that covered about 95% of my body.  Kind of made me think of chicken pox.  Anyways they never figured out what it was and it pretty much went away, except a few patches.

Now this year I seem to have gotten more new patches on my legs, arms and belly.  My derm said it was a  bit of exima and psriosis (sorry if I spelled wrong).

Both times I was told it had nothing to do with the med.  But honestly I had never had any skin problems before taking this med.

It is worth it for me though as it controls the desease.

Actually in the med warning/pamphlet of Humira it does list Psoriasis as a side effect/complication. The first time I was on it I did develop psoriasis. It started as kind of oozing sores on my legs and then turned to patches on my legs and hands and elbows.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have that problem again since I restarted in September. I never went to a derm for treatment because we ended up stopping the Humira at that time for other reasons. It did go away once I stopped the Humira.

I was on it for about 6 months, and found my skin was dry and after a few months, I kept getting rough/dry patches in places. I also had really bad dandruff. All that cleared up after I stopped.

I developed severe plaque psoriasis from taking Humira. I do have PA, but I have NEVER, EVER in my entire life had so much as a pink spot until I took humira. The psoriasis came after having been on it for about a year. I have since stopped it and have been off of it for over a year, but the psoriasis is still here and I haven't found anything to make it go away yet.

I sincerely hope that isn't the case for you and that it will stop once you stop the humira.

my skin's kind of funky but i don't know if its from humira or prednisone...

I am one that developed psoriasis after being on humira for 9 months. I started getting scaly patches with what looked like little blisters filled with with water. They started out on my stomach and breasts, then began appearing on my face and arms. Once I went off the humira, the patches disappeared and didn't get any new ones.

Hi everyone, I am new to this so I hope I do this posting thing correctly.

I have been using humira for R.A. for over 2 yrs. This past March I broke out with small patches on my skin that would morph into large circular patches which would have tiny bumps would peal off and then return. I stopped using humira for 9wks. hoping this would resolve the issue. It has not as of yet resolved. I have been to the Derm. he did a skin biopsy and it came back as subacute dermatitis. I have been prescribed many ointments and creams, nothing helps.

I am otherwise healthy but at my yearly physical my doc said that my liver function was 25 points over the normal range. I am usually a pretty positive person but this is really taking it's toll mentally. I have not been able to get this issue in remission.

Is there anyone else who has had this issue? And does anyone know long it takes for this drug to get out of the body? I am not currently on humira, removed myself from it 10 wks ago. I do not plan to use it or any biologic drug again.

Hello while i was on humira i got a white bubble rash on my chest and neck... they even got filled with some fluid, the derm said it was fungal but due to the Humira suppressing my immune system. Took some meds and cream and it was gone in a month.... good luck hope you find out what it is...

Thanks cheerpinky for the encouragement. This started 9 months ago. At first the Derm. thought it was fungal but after sending in a skin biopsy we were told that wasn't the case. I have been prescribed so many different ointments, none work. I was told to go back on the Humira because it would help my skin. WRONG!!!

I am off all meds and praying I don't flare. I will see my primary care doc this Thursday to discuss how to proceed (I trust this man, specialists don't know you from Adam and don't make much effort since they have a 15 min. window to decide how to proceed)

I am happy to hear you cleared quickly, so many people I have read about online haven't, are you still using Humira? It is a great drug, at least I thought it was, I felt so good for the 2+ years I have been using. I just don't know if the side effects are worth the risk.

yes! I get boils on my legs and have dandruff. I also have to take a zyrtec everyday or I will get very itchy. I didn't have any skin problems before the Humira. However, the humira has done wonders for my colon, so the skin problems can be tolerated!

I'm new here, but am very happy to have signed up! I've been taking Humira for 2 yrs now and have developed psoriasis too. I had it before but it has worsened in the last 3 months especially on my scalp, it's horrible. I have it in areas I've never had it before, my feet, hands and face now. Tried creams and it only temporarily clears it up...Got an appointment in Jan. to see a dermatologist, hopefully she can help...
