Budesonide..new to Crohns. or atleat new to the diagnoses :)

Hi, I was diagnosed with Crohns about a month ago. Looking back I've had syptoms forever. The way I was diagnosed was I went to my family doctor for being really really tired. Im 41, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Heart Disease (no high blood pressure, only when pain levels are high, about average weight so Heart disease come from something else but left article is enlarged), Miagrans, Anxiety, Barrets disease. I almost did not go because I figured my symptoms were related to one of the other things however I was having more pain then usual and a hard time breathing ...they did blood work and my Hemoglobin was 6.1...so they put me in hospital and I received blood transfusions which go it up to a 9. I had a stomache bleed back 3 years ago which they think was due to asprin..but is when they found the barretts so I guess everything happens for a reason. This time they first thought it was that bleed again but decided to do testing. Thats when the Crohns showed up. First colonospony I ever had. They have given me a medician called " Budesonide" I read on it and it scares me. Says it lowers immune system ..I get sick enough as it is. Ive been reading the boards and most ppl are on something different. Has anyone heard of Budesonide? Any thougths? Thanks alot!

I see some ppl have at the end of there post a list of what they take, if I need to do that just let me know ok.

Thanks, I guess I should give it a try ...hearing that you took it has helped me, even though it did not work for you I know you took it and you were ok. I have a fear sometimes of new meds..the side effects. I dont have the best immune system to begin with so the thougth of getting everything that goes around really scares me. Theres so much to learn and so many medicines . I look forward to getting to know you and everyone here. :)

You know what would be really cool? If you treated your Crohn's and then got a lot better with your other issues too! I'll bet the Crohn's is responsible for many of your other complaints.

Budesonide/Entocort is a reasonable first med, but it is not a forever solution. Most DRs do not keep patients on this drug for longer than 6 months. You should already have plans to follow up with your GI in the next few weeks, and you will talk with your Dr about what the next step is going to be.

If you don't have any strictures (narrowing) in your bowel, you might consider taking the pill-cam, which is a tiny camera that you swallow, and it takes images of your small intestine. There is no way to see the small bowel with a colonscopy, and since your scope last month indicated Crohn's in your terminal ileum, I would want to know if there is inflammation higher. Was there also inflammation lower in the bowel? Budesonide is not going to treat those parts.

What are the meds you're taking for your other ailments?
