I went to the ER yesterday with bad cramps from constipation, HORRID upper abd pain accompanied with nausea and vomitting along with a Remicade reaction. The doctors took an xray and said they saw nothing but a lot of stool yet they didn't once do an xray of my upper abdomen. I was in too much pain to ask about
a possile stricture so I just let them treat the reaction. The ER doctor called my GI(my bowels were backed up to where I was almost empacted) and he told me to up my dose of miralax(was already taking two doses everyday with hardly any relief!) So since sunday I've taken 9 doses of miralax, a suppository, fiber supplements, drinking a minnum of 60 ounces of water a day and an hour ago I drank a bottle of that disgusting lemon flavored laxative soda-like drink. Yet I'm barely pushing anything out but thin stools.
I know I had some colon thickening but this is rediculous! The pain is almost unbearable and around my pelvis/lower stomach and I FEEL the muscles cramp, then I get a sharp pain and I hear a loud gurgle and feel a swish of liquid in my lower abd. and BAM! Time to go to the bathroom. Does this sound like a stricture? The same is happening in my upper abd. Food will sit in my stomach for almost days then BAM. Loud gurgling accompanied by intense pain. My appetite is lowering day by day and I was wondering:
1) How do you diagnose strictures in the Upper GI and lower?
2) Does this sound like a stricture?
3) Can Remicade cause strictures from 'helping' the inflammation subside?
4) Those of you who've had/has blockages/strictures does an all liquid/low residue diet help/has helped you?
5) Can strictures/blockages cause my thin stool?
I'm calling my GI friday because I am tired of this constipation/diarrhea/vomitting/nausea/weight loss deal. I think the flare's gotten better but this pain is different than the usual flare and I'm thinking strictures are the cause. BTW I have Crohn's affecting my upper and lower GI.
