Last November, I found it very difficult to insert pentasa enema and had severe rectal pain. So, I saw my colorectal surgeon and he decided that I have anal stenosis because of scarring and warned me against using any enemas. However, bowel movements became a torture and I used stool softeners but things didn't become better. I accepted it and thought it is my disease and I have to cope. Meanwhile, I kept complaining to my GI and he told me that he suspected that it was inflammation and warned me against dilatation. During my last stomach flare up, and which I'm still in, things became worse and having a bowel movement because of D caused severe vomiting and nausea. So, my GI decided that I should see another surgeon and take Imodium since I was not eating anything. I saw another one yesterday (and though the examination was horrible this time), he told me that I have got no narrowing but I should not strain and not take enemas. Add up, I stopped MTX and started to flare up. So, I disobeyed the surgeons' opinion and took pentasa enema as I have already been absent from work for a week now and we will have students' final exams next week. BTW, pentasa suppositories don't make me any better so I prefer the enema form. I haven't seen my GI yet and he told me if I'm doing well, I should get back to him after 2 weeks. So, should I see my GI or just use the enema and try to control the proctitis? Is there a medical procedure to rule out anal stenosis or should it a be colonoscope?
